From EXTRACTIONS from:
EPITAPHS from the OLD BURYING-GROUND in CAMBRIDGE
PART I - 1663 to 1716

William Thaddeus Harris,
Junior Sophister in Harvard College.
Cambridge: Published by John Owen.

Here lyes ye body of
CICELY, Negro, late Servant to ye Rev. Mr. William Brattle
she died April 8, 1714.
being 15 years old.

Cicely's body is interred across from Harvard's Johnston Gate in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She died in 1714 during a measles epidemic brought to the college.

The author of this memorial takes great pride in remembering Cicely in a number of ways. She was a servant to Rev. Brattle who I hope and pray took a pastor's care for her in the kindest way. Rev. Brattle baptized my 6X great grandfather, Capt. Samuel Robinson (1707-67) at Christ Church next to the Old Burying Ground. Another interesting note is that Capt. Robinson's father, Lt. Samuel Robinson (1680-1724) owned the tavern in Cambridge Square from (1707-21) the very site where William Brattle Jr., son of the Reverend, not long after, built his mansion which still stands today.
