Joel W. Lurie, who had been an independent salesman with Campus Sportwear for 30 years, died Nov. 5 at age 70.
After leaving the apparel industry, he became a health-care consultant in the insurance business and worked with his son Kevin.
A longtime member of Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, Mr. Lurie loved playing poker, gardening, reading mystery novels, and watching suspense films. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he swam competitively while attending Cleveland Heights High School and Florida State University, and then while he was in the U.S. Army. Later, Mr. Lurie became proficient at golf and tennis. A native Clevelander, he graduated from Western Reserve University with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Lurie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; sons Jeffrey, Kevin, Robert, and Steven; eight grandchildren; and brother Alan.
