Louis Lurie was born in Ontario, Canada, on August 29, 1907, the son of Conrad Lurie (1877-1938) and Emma (Goldstick) Lurie (1877-1919).

He emigrated from Canada to the United States in 1923 at the age of 16.

He married Edith R. Bedol on January 11, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio. They had two sons, Alan and Joel.

Louis died in August 1980 in Cleveland.
