Sarah was a young woman, about 22 years old, when she emigrated with her family from County Donegal to Caledon. On January 15, 1833, about a year after her arrival in Canada, Sarah Dougherty married Maurice Hearn. (St. Paul Catholic Church, Toronto, York, Baptisms, narriages 1833-1842, Image 25)

Sarah & Maurice had 7 children. In addition to the children whose memorials are linked, there was a daughter, Sarah Jean, who was baptized on May 15, 1840, in Chinguacousy (now Brampton). (St. Patrick Catholic Church, Wildfield, Baptisms, Marriages 1833-1857, page 60, Image 32). This child died young -- before 1850 -- and her burial details are unknown.

Maurice and Sarah purchased land in Farmington, Wisconsin, in 1852. They spent the rest of their lives on this farm.

According to Green Bay Diocese church records, Sarah died in Farmington on February 18, 1884, at the age 74 years and was buried on February 20, 1884, in Lebanon, Wisconsin.

Her obituary reads: "DIED HEARN-In Farmington, on Monday Feb 18, Mrs. Sarah Hearn, aged 75 years. Mrs. Sarah Hearn was one of the old pioneers of the county, having removed to Farmington (with her husband, Mr. Morris Hearn, who died about seven years ago) over 34 years ago. She had suffered with cancer in the face for a year and a half and that hastened her death. She resided with her son John on the old homestead. Three daughters, Mrs. P.M. Barton, of Durand; Mrs. F. Klemm, of Royalton; Mrs. N. Brundredge, of Farmington, and a large circle of friends are left to mourn. She was buried at the Catholic cemetary in Lebanon. Rev. Father Jasper preached the sermon." (The Republican) There is a slight discrepancy of the age between the death record and obituary.
