David Paul Overhulser, 58, died peacefully while resting at his Edwardsburg home following a year of suffering acute myeloid leukemia (AML), also known as acute myelogenous leukemia or acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). A doctor he respected and trusted had recently suggested David should "live as well as you can for whatever time you have left", and that is exactly what David did. For the last few months of his life, this had become his prayer:

"Father, my only desire is to delight in you, and to delight only in you. My delights in myself and in things as I would have them only cause trouble for myself and others, so my desire is to delight in you, and to delight only in you."

Cancer Is So Limited...
It cannot cripple love; It cannot shatter hope;
It cannot corrode faith; It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence; It cannot kill friendship;
It cannot shut out memories; It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul; It cannot reduce eternal life;
It cannot take from anyone the power of the resurrection.
--Unknown

During previous years, David had competed in amateur as well as professional motorcycle hillclimbing and was a member of the Goshen Iron Horsemen. He was a skilled water-skier and a NASCAR fan who was thrilled when his favorite driver won the last race he ever saw.

David was preceded in death by his mother, and also by "Mikey", a fellow rider and close friend.

David is survived by his father, three older brothers, two sons, three nieces, one nephew and some great friends.

A memorial gathering for relatives and friends will be held from 4pm to 8pm on October 13, 2014, in the front room of the American Legion Post 365, 25751 U.S. 12, Edwardsburg, Michigan.
