She taught kindergarten and first grade at Indialantic Elementary School from 1966-1986. In her early career she taught at Stephens College, Hull House in Chicago, plantation schools in Hawaii, and on the King Ranch in TX.
She was a faithful member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Satellite Beach for more than 50 years. She enjoyed needlework, poetry, and genealogy and was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She was the loving wife of the late James Richard (Dick) Johnston for 63 years.
