Mrs. Grooms was a native of Madison County and a member of the Church of God.
Mrs. Grooms was the daughter of the late Simon and Minnie Hensley Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Winfred Norton and Den Grooms; two sisters, Nellie Norton and Mae Belle Rice; brother, Ernest Rice; and a granddaughter, Debra Mace.
She is survived by daughters, Iva Glenn Capps of Jefferson City, Tenn., Shirley Shelton and Geneva Dockery, both of Mars Hill, and Ernestine Parton of Asheville; son, Troy Grooms of Marshall; sisters, Ella Slagle, Estalee Hernandez and Virgie Edwards, all of Mars Hill; brothers; Arville Rice of Mars Hill and Eugene Rice of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home. The Revs. Harold Lewis, Bob Ballard and Joe Rice will officiate. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
