This cemetery was also known as:
The Over-back Cemetery

To sort out above. Henry Straight is listed on the Founders Stone as an Early Settler of East Greenwich. Seventy-three years later, "Founder" John Spencer's great-grandson, William Spencer, spouse of Mary Manchester purchased the colonial land of the Henry Straight family.
There is a story stating when Richard and his father William Spencer died of small pox in 1777 and buried in the Straight Cemetery included in this land, His Mother could not have General George Washington return her son John who was fighting in the Revolutionary War.
She sold some of the land including the cemetery to buy a Substitute for her son John. Later Richard, John's son purchased the land back.

SO Straight Cemetery because it was on Original Straight land.
Straight-Spencer Cemetery or Spencer-Straight Cemetery was because Straight land was purchased by Spencer.
4 Spencers are said to be buried here. William b;1723-d; 1777-Richard b; 1751 d; 1777-Mary b; 1719-d; 1784-Elizabeth b; 1746-d: 1814 wife of Thomas Shippee Jr. {"The Spencers were buried on the west end of yard, next to the west wall, and heads facing west."}
When Middle Road came through the Spencer's buried their family
-{" began a new burial plot, 1383 feet to the north, down by the new road."} and the Straight Spencer Cemetery became Over-Back.
