After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1821, David served as preceptor at the Caledonia Grammar school until entering Andover Theological Seminary. After graduating in 1825, he served at churches in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Indiana, and Illinois before securing a position in Urbana, Ohio. In 1841, he returned to lead Peacham's Congregational Church at the request of its membership. He became ill on July 18, 1850, and passed away 4 days later.
