American Producer. Chartoff attended Union College and Columbia University Law School before embarking on a film career which spanned six decades. Along with his producing partner, Irwin Winkler, the pair won 1976's Best Picture Academy Award for 'Rocky'. Between 1967 and 1985, Chartoff-Winkler Productions turned out more than 25 features, including 'Point Blank' (1967), 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They?' (1969), 'The Strawberry Statement' (1970), 'Believe in Me' (1971), 'The Mechanic' (1972), 'The Gambler' (1974), 'Nickelodeon' (1976), 'New York, New York' (1977), 'Comes a Horseman' (1978) and 'True Confessions' (1981). In addition to 'Rocky', the pair also received best picture Oscar nominations for 'Raging Bull' (1980) and 'The Right Stuff' (1983), with their films collecting 12 Oscars and 40 nominations overall. In 1985, the partnership dissolved and Chartoff went on to produce several more films, including 'Beer' (1985), 'Straight Talk' (1992), 'In My Country' (2004), 'The Tempest' (2010) and 'Ender's Game' (2013). Chartoff died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
