Married Jacqueline 'Jackie' Hatton on March 21, 1958.

Franklin retired from Brockway/Owens Glass Company in Lapel after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Frankton American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army, 35thInfantry Regiment during the Korean War and was Honorably discharged in 1955.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Maude Sylvester, son Jay Sylvester, two sisters Betty Lott and Helen Sylvester, three brothers Gerald 'Fat' Sylvester, Jake Sylvester and Mac McDole
