Mary D. Pencek, age 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born March 25, 1925 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Walter and Genevieve (Slawinski) Adamski. A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, she attended Dunkirk schools. She was employed at Van Raalte, Dunkirk Lingerie, Cease's Commissary and retired from the Chautauqua County Home. She was a lifelong parishioner of Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish, Church of St. Hyacinth. She was one of the founding members of the Our Lady of Fatima Society and a member of the Mother's Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandchildren and enjoyed gardening. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, John T. Pencek who died Jan. 3, 1963, her brothers, Edward Adamski of Buffalo and Harry Adamski of Cheektowaga and her sister, Geraldine Ziegler of Dunkirk. She is survived by her children, Richard (Susan) Pencek of Columbus, Ohio, Jane (the late Roy) White of Chantilly, Virginia, Mary Ann (Robert) Mahunik of Pennelville, New York, Carol (George) Stafford of Fredonia and Jack Pencek of Dunkirk; 11 grandchildren, Richard, Thaddeus, Todd, Rebecca, Mary, Phillip, Alysha, Matthew, Ann, Kelley and Erin and her sister, Florence Burek of South Dayton, NY. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:15 from the Newman Funeral Home, Inc. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish- St. Hyacinth's Worship Site. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. The family suggests memorials be made to either the St. Hyacinth's Cemetery Fund or to the Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels. The Our Lady of Fatima Society will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
