OBITUARIES
Victor Slama, 91
Victor Slama, 91, formerly of the Kalispell Hotel, died Saturday morning in the Bigfork Convalesent Home, where he had lived since February. He was a retired saw mill worker.
Mr. Slama was born Dec. 23, 1883 in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He attended school there and in Milton, N.D. after moving there with his parents in 1892.
He farmed in the area many years and in 1910 he was married to Anabelle Poter (sic) in Osnabrock, N.D. They moved to Kalispell in 1935 from Osnabrock.
He worked for O'Neil Brothers many years and also operated his own plaining mill during World War II. Following retirement from the mill in 1965 he worked in the office of Kalispell Plumbing until 1970.
In recent years he had made his home in Kalispell and with his daughter in Longview, Wash. His wife died here in 1947.
Mr. Slama was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are three sons, Clarence E. and Herman J., both of Kalispell, Orley Slama, Billings; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Eleanor Katherine) Hamel, Longview, Wash.; four brothers, Tom, Ed, Frank and Phillip Slama, all of Milton, N.D.; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Monday in the Weatherford Funeral Home and Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Bruce J. Plummer as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
