He attended NYU (New York University) on a $77.50 annual scholarship and a $100 loan, graduating in 1922.

80 years later on his death in 2002, he left NYU $150 million in his will. The bequest was able to fund hundreds of new teaching positions.

He made his fortune as a lawyer for the Polaroid Corporation, becoming Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.

Along with his 1st cousin, Rabbi Israel Goldstein, and Albert Einstein he was one of the founders of Brandeis University.
