Entertainer. Born Gordon Robert Tapp, he was best known for being a mainstay on the popular television show "Hee Haw" during its long run on both CBS and in syndication. He studied at the Lorne Greene Academy of Radio Arts in Canada and got his start hosting the radio show "Main Street Jamboree" in Canada during the 1950s. He later went on to host CBC television show "Country Hoedown" from 1956 to 1965. In 1969 he joined the CBS show "Hee Haw" as both writer and performer and continued with the program until 1988. His most famous characters while on the show were Cousin Clem, Samuel B. Sternwheeler, Mr. Gordon the storekeeper, and Lavern Nagger, the forever put-upon husband of Ida Lee Nagger (Roni Stoneman). In 1990 he was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and in 1998 was awarded the Order of Canada for his lifelong charitable work.
