Painter. He was a German painter, and the son of painter Wilhelm von Kaulbach. He initially studied medicine, but then decided to follow his father's career path. He became associated with the Munich School of artists and devoted his work to historical themes and portraits of children. In 1886, he became a professor of History Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. His major works, which are on display at various museums across Europe, include "Hansel and Gretel with the Witch" in 1872, "Mozart's Last Days" in 1878, "The Portrait of Anton Bruckner" in 1885, "Coronation of St. Elisabeth by Emperor Frederick II" in 1886, "At the Tomb of a Friend" in 1888, and "The Surprise" about 1906.
