Opera Singer. A lyric soprano who sang a variety of roles in major venues, she shall probably be best remembered as one of 'The Three Sopranos'. Raised in Wilmington, she originally studied nursing and earned her R.N. from the University of Delaware in 1980.Never giving-up on music, she continued her vocal studies and after doing well in the 1984 Austrian American Competition went on to Europe where she won the 1985 Salzburg Mozart Festival Competition. Kathleen made her 1986 European operatic bow at Hamburg as The Queen of the Night from Mozart's "The Magic Flute", going-on to sing the role about 200 times over the years. From 1987 thru 1989 she was a regular at Karlsruhe, among her assignments there Donna Anna of Mozart's "Don Giovanni", Violetta in Verdi's "La Traviata", Mimi from Puccini's "La Boheme", and the title lead of Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor". She was to perform throughout Europe, maintaining a close relationship with Opera Marseilles, and in June of 1994 bowed at La Scala Milano as Gilda from Verdi's "Rigoletto". In January 1996 she was invited by impresario Tibor Rudas to join Kallen Esperian and Cynthia Lawrence to form "The Three Sopranos", a girl counterpoint to the then quite popular "Three Tenors", Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras. The group toured extensively on both sides of the Atlantic and frequently were joined by one or more of Three Tenors. With time she added a number of pieces to her repertoire, among them Konstanze of Mozart's "The Abduction From the Seraglio", Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust", and Liu from Puccini's "Turandot". At her death she left a small but significant legacy including several DVDs of The Three Sopranos.
