THE STAR AND SENTINEL September 14, 1918

Edward Reese, veteran of the Civil War, and one of the oldest residents, of the western section of the county, died at 2:00 Wednesday morning at his home in Hamiltonban township near Iron Springs from infirmities. He was aged 88 years, 7 months and 11 days.
Mr. Reese was born at Fountain Dale and spent his entire life in Hamiltonban township. He followed the occupation of farming until his advancing years made necessary his retirement. For five years he was supervisor in his township.
During the Civil War, Mr. Reese served with the 165th and 210th Pennsylvania Infantry regiments. He was a member of James Dixon Poet, Grand Army of the Republic, of Fairfield.
Mrs. Reese died ten years ago and he leaves one son and one daughter, John E Reese, of New Oxford, and Mrs. Margaret Smith, of near Iron Springs. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Madison Shindledecker, of Fairfield, and Mrs. Julia Ann Stoops of Waynesboro. Twenty five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services at 10:00 Friday morning at the house. Interment was made in Union Cemetery at Fairfield.

He also enlisted in Harrisburg September 13, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 14 as a private with Co. I, 210th Pennsylvania Infantry, and discharged by surgeon's certificate per general order June 5, 1865.
