Actor. He was best known to television viewers as 'Burt Buchman', Paul Reiser's father on the 1990s NBC sitcom "Mad About You". He attended the Goodman Theater School of Drama in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. His first television role came in the 1958 television movie "The Double Cure". Besides "Mad About You", he would go on to appear in numerous television series and movies throughout his long acting career. His television credits included such series as "Encounter", "Armstrong Circle Theatre", "Naked City", "Route 66", "Kojak", "Ryan's Hope", "Spenser: For Hire", "Brooklyn Bridge", and "The Jury". He also appeared in numerous films during his career with such credits as "Coogan's Bluff" (1968), "Popi" (1969), "Cold Turkey" (1971), "Fiddler on the Roof" (1971), "The Muppets Take Manhattan" (1984), "Club Paradise" (1986), and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (1988). He was also well known on the theatrical scene, performing in numerous plays on and off- Broadway throughout his career. He earned a Tony nomination for his work in the 1969 play "Hadrian VII". He was married to actress Olympia Dukakis and they co-founded the Whole Theater company in their hometown of Montclair, New Jersey. He was on the faculty of HB Studio, one of the country's premiere acting programs.
