Actress. She was best known to television viewers as the gossipy 'Harriet Oleson' on the long-running NBC drama series "Little House on the Prairie" from 1974 to 1983. Born Dorlee Deane McGregor, she attended both Denver University and Northwestern University, where she earned her degree in drama. She later went to New York City where she was hired by the Arthur Murray Dance Studio as a dance instructor. She also studied acting under N. Richard Nash, Stella Adler, and Sanford Meisner. She started acting on the theatrical stage on and off-Broadway in the early 1950s before going into both films and television. Her film debut came in 1954 on the classic "On the Waterfront." She would later appear in such films as "The Student Nurses" (1970) and "The Traveling Executioner." (1970) She made her "small screen" debut in 1956 on the series "Love of Life." Besides "Little House on the Prairie," she went on to appear in such television series as "Mannix," "Emergency!," "All in the Family," and "Ironside." After "Little House on the Prairie," she went back to her theatrical roots, appearing in small theater productions before retiring in the early 2000s.
