Enlisted, July 2, 1917, in Troop C, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company C.

The 105th MG Battalion was assigned to Camp Wadsworth , SC, for training. After training at Camp Wadsworth the Battalion shipped out for Europe, May 18, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares , from Newport News, VA. The Battalion docked May 30, 1918, at St. Nazaire, France.

After additional training in France he went into the Lines with the 105th Machine Gun Battalion and saw conbat in both Belgium and France. The 105th MG Battalion sailed for the States, February 26, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan docking at Hoboken, NY, March 6, 1919. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City. Discharged from the service as a Corporal, April 1, 1919, Camp Upton, NY.
