Actor. Born Anthony Edward Lowry Britton, he served with the British Royal Army during World War II and later began his acting career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. He made his motion picture debut with a minor role in the film Waterfront Women" (1950) and rose to memorable roles of substances in the pictures "Operation Amsterdam" (1959), "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (1971) and "Day of the Jackal" (1973). He distinguished himself when he received a BATFA nomination for his performance in "The Nearly Man" (1975).
