Actress. Born the daughter of Branka Weil and Ivan Furlan in Zagreb, Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. She was graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. By the mid 1980s, she was a film star in Yugoslavia, with roles in Academy award-nominated "When Father was Away on Business" (1985), which won the Palme d'Or prize at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival, and "The Beauty of Vice" (Montenegro, 1986), and television series such as "Velo Misto" and "Smogovci." When Yugoslavia began to crumble, however, she was declared a traitor by the media in a vicious smear campaign. She was then dismissed from the Croatian National Theatre and the state requisitioned her apartment. The persecution drove her and husband, director Goran Gajic, to emigrate in 1991. In the US, she was sent to a handful of auditions, one of which was for "Babylon 5." She was cast in what might be called her signature role, that of the Minbari, Delenn. The series ran from 1993 to 1998. After it wrapped, she released an album, "Songs From Movies That Have Never Been Made." She appeared as a guest in several other series before landing the recurring role of Danielle Rousseau in the cult favorite, "Lost" which ran from 2004 to 2010. Other American credits include the TV-movie "My Antonia" (1995), the series "Just Add Magic," "Space Command," and the video games "Beyond Blue" and "Mafia: Difinitive Edition." Her last appearance was in the film "Burning at Both Ends" which released posthumously. She succumbed to complications from West Nile Virus at the age of 65.
