William M. Varney, 92, of Bremerton and formerly of Chelan, died Sunday in a Bremerton nursing home.

Mr. Varney was born at Lincoln, Nebraska, Sept. 25, 1881, and came to Chelan at an early age with his family. For many years he was employed as a farmer and a carpenter throughout North Central Washington. In 1935 he was married Hazel Ashcraft at Wenatchee. Following their marriage, they made their home in Trinidad and in 1937 they moved to Lakeside. In 1941 they moved to Seattle and in 1949 they moved to Palisades. Since 1954 they have made their home at Bremerton.

Survivors include his wife; two sons: Randolph, of Quincy; and Howard, of Bremerton; two daughters: Maxine Magis, of Malta, Montana; and Margie Kennard, of Bothell; two stepdaughters: Mrs. Lyda Miller, of Dryden; and Mrs. June Bourne, of Riverton, Wyoming; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
