Television Producer and Writer. He may be best remembered for creating with Lorenzo Music "The Bob Newhart Show," a sitcom series that aired from September 16, 1972, to April 1, 1978. He also created another sitcom series, "Taxi" with James L. Brooks, Stan Daniels, and Ed. Weinberger that aired from September 12, 1978, to May 6, 1982 on ABC before moving to NBC on September 30, 1982 and ending there on June 15, 1983. For his production of "Taxi" he was awarded a Primetime Emmy Award in 1979. He was also co-producer for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and co-creator of television series "Rhoda." He lived with actress Julie Kavner from 1976 until his death.
