Singer, Songwriter. He was an American singer and songwriter who co-wrote and recorded Motown's first hit in 1959, with "Money (That's What I Want)," which went on to sell a million copies and helped ignite the company's fortunes. He had an integral role in the birth of Motown Records. He collaborated with songwriter-producer Norman Whitfield on work for Marvin Gaye ("I Heard It Through the Grapevine"), The Temptations ("Cloud Nine," "I Wish It Would Rain," "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone"), Edwin Starr ("War") and others. In 2004, Strong and Whitfield were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004.
