Margaret Smith (Brown) Tate, 87, of Knoxville, Tenn, formerly of Etowah, died Tuesday, Feb 19, 2008 in Knoxville. She was a native of Palins, GA, but lived most of her life in Etowah where she attended school and graduated from Etowah High School. She was a daughter of Hub and Minnie Smith and a member of First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, listed above, her husbands, William Edgar Brown and Alfred Tate; two sisters Sarah Fuller and Bobbie Boyd; and one brother, Herbert Smith. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Suellen Roehl and Joe Cate, Knoxville, Tnn, and Jeannie and John RoBards, of Fisherville, KY., formerly of Springfield; grandchildren, Jay A Roehl and Eleanor Roehl Dorrycott, both of Knoxville, Tenn., Lee and RoBards Hill, LaGrange, KY, Ryan Robards, Charlotte, NC; William RoBards, Wilmington, NC; and six great-grandchildren; two sisters Glady Long of Augusta, SC., and Alice Barker of Athens, Tenn, and Bill R Smith, Ten Mile, TN., a sister-in-law, JO Anne Smith and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Knoxville and many nurses, aides and therapist of Brakebill Nursing Home in Knoxville for their special care for Mrs. Tate.

Graveside services were held at Green Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb 22 with Rev Shaun King officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to First Baptist Church, 824 Washington Ave, Etowah, TN 37331 or to St Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of your choice. Bordwine Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
