Actor. Born in Essen/Germany, he began his career in 1896 as a correspondence clerk in Berlin after graduated grammar school. At the same time he learned acting and earned his money as a barnstormer untill he get an engagement at the "Stadttheater Görlitz" and later at the "Hoftheater Dresden" and the "Lessingtheater Berlin". During WWI he became a Leutenant. Due to his alikeness to "Frederick II of Prussia" also known as "Friedrich The Great" he became his role of life. Gebühr played him in at least 11 movies. He charakterized "Friedrich The Great" first in 1922 in "Fridericus Rex". Untill his dead he played in almost 100 movies and became one of Germany's most famous actors of his time.
