World War II and Korea Lt. General, USMC. He was commanding general of the United States Marine Air Wing at invasion of Guadaicanal during WW II and Korea. His 21 combat decorations included army & navy Distinguished Service Medals, and the Legion of Merit with 3 Gold Stars. He is related to General Charles Field CSA, the Civil War leader who commanded half of Robert E. Lee's army, the only effective fighting force left to surrender at Appomattox.
