Absalom Menges was born September 23, 1837 and died May 10 1919 and married Anna (Nancy) Hoke, the daughter of Michael and Susan (Hershey) Hoke. Absalom and family were living in Jackson Township, York County, in 1880 and was listed as a farmer.

According to Absalom's obituary in the Gettysburg Times 13 May 1919, Absalom "was one of the oldest residents of Jackson Township and had followed the mill trade all his life, except the past few years. He was an active memeber of Christ Lutheran Church."

As the result of a bite from a young pig on the index finger of his left hand, Absalom Menges, an octogenarian residing near Farmers, York County, is threatened with blood poinsoning. Sunday he was reported to be very sick. Mr. Menges, about a week ago, was feeding the pigs on corn. As was his custom, he cleaned the trough before giving the corn. It was while doing this, one of the little pigs grabbed his hand, mistaking it for an ear of corn. One of the pig's teeth penetrated the finger. Several days later, the injury became inflamed and blood poisoning is now threatened (Jacob survived the blood poisoning; he died the next year from a paralytic stroke at age 81. - New Oxford Item, New Oxford Pa., 17 January 1918.
