Helen was an impressive lady to the very end. She was a talented seamstress and upholsterer . She gave many hours to volunteer work at a state hospital in Madison. She and Bill built their new home in Maple Bluffs beginning in April 1941. Their move in was in late fall. This was just before the beginning of WW II and the bombing of Pearl Harbor which was Dec 7, 1941 . So their first years at home were also a time when there was rationing .

In retirement they moved to Flat Rock North Carolina, near Helens sister and brother in law . Bill collapsed and died of a heart attack a few years after they made this move.

Helen went to school and studied wood carving and made beautiful big and small carved animals and birds. She also was a volunteer at the Episcopal Church across town from St John in the Wilderness where she was a member.

She enjoyed playing bridge and made many friends in her bridge group.
As the relatives began their departures her life transitioned to Mississippi and on to Galesburg Illinois where time with us ended at 97 years.
