Civil War Union Soldier. He was killed while repulsing Pickett's Charge while trying to reload the "Gettysburg Gun", Battery B, 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery (Brown's Battery) along with Corporal Henry H. Ballou and Private Alexander G. Gardiner. The barrel had been dented by an enemy round and the shell being loaded got lodged making the gun unserviceable after that. The Gettysburg Gun is in the State Capitol in Providence today.
