Ora Simmons was born in Olive, Clinton County, Michigan and probably lived there her entire life. She had nine siblings, many of them buried in Wilsey Cemetery, as are her parents. See a partial listing of them on her father's memorial page (follow the link).

In May 1892, Ora was age 13 when she wrote a letter to her cousin Jack, living or visiting in Ashtabula County, Ohio. She informed him of the death of her sister Dell. Jack's last name is unknown; he may have been related to John Ward White (nickname Jack?), or to the family of Holland and Mary Melissa (Lillibridge) Drake. The letter makes it obvious, however, that he was well acquainted with Ora's family and neighbors back in Olive, Michigan.

In about 1900, Ora married Fred Touse. She had two children. Her son Bernard died in infancy, and it does not appear that her son Donald ever had any children. She died at the age of 23, after ingesting strychnine. Her husband Fred apparently never remarried, and he was buried next to her when he died in 1948.

Ora's letter was found behind the wall of a century-home by the current owner, who would like to contact descendants of Ora (Simmons) Touse's parents Jefferson and Eunice Simmons, to share information.
