HOLLISTER, HELEN LUCILE of Gainesville passed away May 31, 2008. She was 93 years old. Helen was born in Elmira, NY, and attended school there and in Washington, D.C. She received her B.A. degree from American University in Washington, D.C. Prior to her retirement in 1972, Helen worked as a budget analyst for the Department of Defense. Helen moved to Gainesville in 1993 from Annandale, VA. Helen loved life and approached all endeavors with energy, enthusiasm and great humor. She discovered her talent for painting late in life and produced many lovely portraits and landscapes. She was active as a volunteer at her church and was a member of the Art League, Inc., Alexandria, VA, and a vice-president of the Huguenot Society of Virginia. She had wonderful experiences growing up as the daughter of a Congressman, including a twenty-minute flight with Col. Charles A. Lindbergh in 1928. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Alton H. Hollister, Jr. She is survived by her son, Alton H. Hollister, III of Danvers, MA, her daughter, Marjorie H. Malagodi of Gainesville, FL, her sister, Norma G. Brooks of Sebastian, FL, her brother-in-law, Dr. Harold L. Brooks of Sebastian, FL, her granddaughter Susan Suero of St. Petersburg, FL, her grandson, Christopher J. Malagodi of Gainesville, FL, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. A private graveside service will be held in Ormond Beach, FL.
