Naftali also went by the names Nathan and Tony. He brought his wife and four children to the US in 1896. He was a coat presser and tailor. Tony spent the summer of 1913 at the Alms House on Staten Island because of deafness and other illness. After he returned to his family, he was a street peddler.
Naftali's birth year has varied widely in the 3 Federal and 2 NY State census' in which he was enumerated. He married Lena when she was about 16 (1888), and I think he could pass for a younger man until he reached his late forties, when his birth year would become much closer to 1855 or 1860 in records. His health by 1913 had deteriorated beyond what you expect from a man supposedly born in the late 1860s. The death record attributed to him shows a birth date of 1842!
