Henry Bradt was born in Pinckney, NY 14 July 1839, the second eldest son of Abraham (Abram) and Lucy Bradt. His Civil War Service lasted 3 years; he was a member of the Fifth New York Heavy Artillery. He was subsequently a member of the Guilford D. Bailey post, G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic). He married Lois Bowen October 31, 1866, and they had six children. Henry outlived all but one of his 9 siblings, his youngest brother Frank still living at the time of his death. In December 1924 he travelled to Denver, Colorado, where his daughter Elizabeth Bradt McNierney lived, to spend the winter, became ill and died the following spring. At the time of his death he had 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The Norwegian surname Bradt dates back to the early 1600's in America, especially the Hudson River Valley, and Henry is descended from one of two Bradt brothers (Albert and Arendt) who came to America and left a long legacy.
