Rev. G.W. Hunnicutt

Rev. G.W. Hunnicutt, 73, died at his home in Danville, Wednesday, June 26. A native of Canton, Ga., he came to Yell County, Ark., when just a boy. At Young Gravelly last year he celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his preaching at that place. He was a Baptist minister 54 years, was a charter member of the Baptist church of Danville and its first pastor, where his widow now remains the only charter member. It is believed that Rev. Mr. Hunnicutt has baptized more people, married more couples, and conducted more funerals than anyone who has lived in this section of the state. He was known and loved by many people in this region.

The Rev. Mr. Hunnicutt is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. D.J. Mills, Shidler, Oklahoma; Mrs. C.C. Brown, Shawnee, Oklahoma;; and Mrs. W.W. Watkins, Arkadelphia; four sons, N.G., Danville; Dewey, Newkirk Oklahoma; O.B., Ft. Smith, and Loyd, DeQueen; two sisters, Mrs. J.L. Cowger, Danville, and Mrs. John Lemons, Oktaha, Oklahoma; and six brothers, Noble T. and Jim both of Warner, Oklahoma; Cody, Gravelly; Carence, Cotton Plant; and Joe Hunnicutt, Corley, Arkansas; and Wallace of Colorado.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Baptist church of Danville, conducted by Rev. L.R. Ashley of Morrilton. Burial was in New Bethel cemetery where a daughter and son are buried.
