Japanese style painter. He was a brother of writer Kunio Yanagida, who is considered "The Father of Japanese Folklore." Eikyu studied nihonga (Japanese-style painting) at the Tokyo School of Art (now Tokyo University of the Arts) and his works were often shown at other Bunten exhibitions. He also became a well-known art educator and taught artists such as Kyujin Yamamoto and Tatsuo Takayama, who later became famous painters.
