Diton Lee, a resident of Essex IL, was a recruit in Company E 39th Illinois Infantry in the Civil War. He was mustered in Feb 29, 1864 and mustered out Dec 6, 1865. He was a private and served for 1 year, 9 months, and 11 days (including 8 months as a prisoner at Andersonville, Georgia).

There is a cenotaph stone for Diton Lee in the Civil War memorial in the North Essex Cemetery, Essex, Kankakee Co, IL.
