In the name of god amen I, John White of Stanton St-Johns in the ___ Oxford Gentleman touched with the consideration of mine owne mortality and not knowing weth__ be pleased to give me so good vse of mine vnderstanding and memory hereafter as (his name be bles___) I now have in this time of mine health do make this my last will and testament in manner and fo__
First I commend my soule into the handes of my gracious Redeemer Jesus Christ by whose satisfaction ___ merits only I trust assuredly to be saved my body I appoint to be buried in the parish church of Stanto' afore___ in such place as mine executors shall thinke convenient. As for my wordly estate and goods I dispose of them as followeth
In primis my desire and will is that first and before all my debts be discharged
Item I give and bequeath to the poore of the parish of Stanton St Johns where I dwell sixe pounds thirteene shillings foure pence
Item I give and bequeath vnto mine eldest sonne Josiah White fourty pounds
Item I give and ___ bequeath vnto my sonne John White twenty pounds
Item I give and bequeath vnto my eldest daughte'r Mary Terry twenty pounds
Item I give and bequeath vnto my daughter Martha Cooke twenty pounds
Item I give and bequeath vnto my daughter Elizabeth Gardner ten pounds.
All which sumes I app___ to be payd by even porcions the one half within one yeare after my decease the other half somtime the yeare following after that
Item I give and bequeath vnto my sister Avis Sumers ten shillings to be layd out in a ring
Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Alice Cannon fourty shillings
Item I give and bequeath vnto St-Mary Colledge in Oxford comonly called New Colledge ten pounds to be bestowed in two pieces of plate for the vse of the fellowes and students in the same Colledge Which last sumes my will is to have payed entirely within one yeare after my decease
All the rest of my goods and chattells moveable and unmoveable my debts and legacies before mentioned being discharged I give vnto my sonne Steven White whom I make ordaine and constitute my sole Executor of this my last will and testament. Allowing only vnto my two sons in law John Terry and Thomas Gardner whom I desire to be and by this p'sents designe and appoint overseers of this my sayd will and testament for their paines therein fourty shillings a piece
In witnes whereof I the sayd John White have putt to my hand and seale vnto these p'sents dated the xxxth day of September In the yeare of the raigne of o'r Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of God of England France and Ireland King Defender of the faith etc. the fourtee'th and of Scotland the fiftieth Anno Domini 1616
