Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Corporal in Company B, 47th Ohio Infantry for action on May 3, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads "Was one of a party that volunterered and attempted to run the enemy's batteries with a steam tug and two barges loaded with subsistence stores."
