Colorado Pioneer 1859 and founder of Frankstown. Son of Neadham Adolphus and Mehitable (Moulten) Gardner. Intitally moved west in 1856 to vicinity of Omaha, Nebraska. Arrived by ox team and wagon in Denver 1859 searching for gold; operated sawmill November 1859 to June 1860; hauled lumber from Douglas County to Denver; Douglas County Clerk 1863 and Treasuer 1864; homesteaded at what was to become Frankstown and eventually operated a hotel there; elected to State Legislature 1869 to 1873 and to State Senate several times 1879 to 1899. Was appointed Ute Indian Agent 1882 and elected Douglas County Commissioner 1894 to 1896. Commander of a 100-day military company M of 3rd Colorado Cavalry in 1864. Was first postmaster of Frankstown and later of Castle Rock. Franktown, Colorado is named for him.

Married Helen J. Knox on January 13, 1867. They had four daughters and one son.
