California National Guard soldier. He became a licensed minister; was a fourth-degree black belt in Sam Price's Go Su Ryu system of martial arts; athlete who helped lead the Exeter High baseball team to the 2003 East Sierra League title. He worked as a missionary in youth prisons. His father, Marc Unger, is a Baptist minister and founder of the Exeter Baptist Church. Unger was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Armored Division, of the California National Guard.

Cause of death: rocket attack that injured eight other soldiers at a base about 25 miles south Baghdad.
