He was a distinguished Italian patriot and musician, and was prominent among the revolutionists who fought for the unification of Italy and against Austrian oppression in 1848, for which be was exiled. From 1854 to 1884 he was a bandmaster In the United States Army. A widow, son, two daughters and a number of grandchildren survive him.
