Musician. A prominent member of the Bluefield community for many years, he shall probably be best remembered for his long service at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Raised in Bland County he showed his musical talent early and while still in his teens played the piano and organ at numerous local churches. Garland graduated from Bland County High School and from McLain's Business College and was to spend 30 years with Pocahontas Land Company; joining Westminster in 1959, he began a 30 year career as Minister of Music, initially under the ministry of the legendary Dr. C.H. Patterson, while also becoming well known via his appearances in Summit Theater productions and the March of Dimes Telethon on WHIS-TV. In his spare time, Garland was a noted bass fisherman and amateur chef.
