Monica died in the Johnstown Flood of 1889, one of the worst man made disasters in our nations history. 2209 people died, 400 of whom were children. The flood claimed the life of Monica, her father Jacob, sisters Katie and Naomi, a brother identified as "The Son of Jacob Bopp." An infant sister died in 1890 suggesting her mother was pregnant with Catherine at the time of the flood and named her after her daughter Kaie that had died in the flood. A brother Willie survived and lived to adulthood along with his Mother Mary.
