Hammond-Funeral services for J. Kenneth Turnbull, 79, of Hammond, were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Hammond with Rev. Everett Prudhomme, pastor of the Hammond Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Rossie.
Mr. Turnbull died at 4:15 p.m. Monday (june 16, 1986 at his home in Hammond. He had been hospitalized at the E.J. Noble Hospital in Alexandria Bay for a week and a half and returned to his home last Thursday.
Surviving are his wife Helen, two sons Donald of Syracuse, Terry of Gouverneur; two daughters, Mrs. William (Judy) Laidlaw of Theresa, Mrs. Craig (Jane) Desormeau of Lysander, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Adam Sullivan of North Gouverneur; Mrs. Lee (Eleanor) McMechan of Hammond; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
Mr. Turnbull was born in Rossie on June 14, 1907, son of John and Lelia Bacon Turnbull. He attended schools in Rossie and Gouverneur High school.
He married Helen Sigourney on Nov. 29, 1934 in the Presbyterian Mance in Hammond with Rev. Albert Campbell officiating. The couple operated a farm on the Hall road in Rossie for 48 years. Upon retirement, they moved to the village of Hammond where they had live the last five and a half years.
Mr. Turnbull was an avid gardner.
