Helen S. Turnbull was a retired school teacher and farmer.
She was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Rossie, daughter of Noel and Lena McMullin Sigourney and graduated from Hammond High School in June 1925, followed by Ogdensburg Teachers Training class. She then taught for two years at Rossie, then entered Potsdam Normal School where she got a degree in teaching, before returning to teach another year at Rossie.
She married John Kenneth Turnbull on November 29, 1934 and the couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Rossie for 48 years before retiring from farming. . Mrs. Turnbull returned to teaching in 1955 at Oxbow and transferred to the Antwerp school district during the centralization of the Indian River School DIstrict. She retired from teaching in 1970.
Surviving are two sons, two daughters, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A brother Malcolm Sigourney died before her.
