Journalist. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was a popular nationally syndicated columnist during the 1930s and 1940s. After serving in the United States Navy during World War I, he wrote and edited sports material for "United News" (1919 to 1925) and the "Chicago Tribune" (1925 to 1933). Beginning in 1933, he wrote a syndicated column titled "Fair Enough," for the "New York World-Telegram" which brought him national attention. In 1941, he became the first columnist to win a Pulitzer Prize for exposing labor racketeering in the country. In his column "As Pegler Sees It," introduced by King Features Syndicate in 1944, he attacked the Supreme Court, the Newspaper Guild, the wealthy, the United States tax system, unions, and many other national figures. By the early 1960s, his publication columns ended and he began writing for right-wing publishers such as "American Opinion."
