MISS CONEY MORRISON, PIONEER RESIDENT, DIES SUDDENLY
Miss Coney Morrison, 71, last of a prominent early day Canon City family, died suddenly about 7 o'clock Saturday morning at her home, 517 Whipple avenue.
Apparently in good health, she arose at her usual hour a short time before 7 a.m. A few minutes later she collapsed in her room and died before medical aid could be summoned. Death was probably due to a heart attack, it was stated.
The Morrison family came to Canon city in 1883 from North Carolina, their native state. Miss Coney Morrison had been born there three years earlier. Her father, J. Morrison, was retired at the time they came here.
The family was reared here and for many years lived at 1031 River street, a home they built not long after moving to Canon City.
Miss Morrison was one of a family of nine children. A brother, John Q. Morrison, was marshal of Canon City a number of years and later an officer at Colorado state prison. Others were Mrs. Vic Adams, Ella, Fannie, and A. D. Morrison, long-time painter here; Lee, grocery and hotel clerk; Hall, clerk at Palace Drug store, and Fletcher.
Mrs. Morrison was active in musical circles here in her earlier years and held membership in the First Presbyterian church, the Eastern Star and Rebekah lodge.
She sold the family home on River street a few months ago and moved to the Whipple avenue address where she died.
Her only immediate survivors are three nieces and a nephew. They are Mrs. Ella McCoy of Englewood, Colo., Mrs. Mary Lynch of Denver, Mrs. Nellie Coffey of Seattle and Clarence Adams of Chicago.
Funeral services will be held at the Wilson drawing room at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Richard M. Sammon of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be made in Lakeside Cemetery.
